We’re on our way to getting things fixed!

During the last really cold snap, Pilgrim Church suffered. We knew a pipe had cracked, but we didn’t know which one. We saw water in the hall and water in the parlor and water in my office. But where was the problem?

And of course, with any old church, you scratch one thing and find another! During the clean up, asbestos testing revealed the need for remediation. The good news is…that’s done! And the demolition is done! We’re grateful to Bill and his team at Servicemaster for getting things moving so quickly.

What and when?

Boucher Heating has been in the building this week and they found and replaced the broken pipe. Now it’s getting insulated to withstand the cold temperatures ahead. After that, we can get busy rebuilding the ceilings in the parlor, my office, and the hallway. All this work takes time, and we’ve got high hopes. But we know not the day…nor the hour.

A conservative estimate puts our cautiously optimistic eyes toward Easter Sunday. That’s a big day in the life of any church, and if we could have the repairs done by then it would be blessing. Of course, that means we’d need a lot of work done through the month of March.

The good news is that we’ve got great folks in place to help, and the bad news is that these things take time and approvals and care. So please be patient with everyone involved and focus on the great news that we can keep using many spaces at Pilgrim, including our sanctuary.

Pick Two…

Have you ever heard the old joke that you can have “good, fast, or cheap…pick two!” We want the best possible work done at a fair price as soon as possible. Time is not something we can control–but we’re Christians, and we know that all too well. Some things belong in God’s hands.

Please keep this process in your prayers, and let’s do what we can with what we have as we await a full restoration! I’ve included these photos so you can see some views of the hall and the parlor you’ll hopefully never see again. This is an important moment in our history…but I look forward to putting it behind us.
