Her children raise her up and call her blessed.

Why not offer Mom…a little creativity next year?
This week we did something a little different during our weekly Monday Healthy Living group. Since most of the group are mothers, I asked what they did for Mother’s day. There was a good amount of variation.
One thing stood out: Mother’s Day is not a one-size-fits-all holiday. Some have abandoned it completely, but others always appreciate appreciation. We do seem to fall into ruts sometimes, though, doing the same things year after year. If that tradition is a comfort, then enjoy it; no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Try some of these
On the other hand, if you’re looking for ways to honor Mom, and you’ve already made a donation in her honor to a charity she cares about, consider this list:
- Take a walk with Mom
- Send her a card
- Make her a brunch in your home and invite her to a situation where she neither has to prepare nor clean up
- Send her a bouquet of cut flowers
- Take her out to a show
- Do some gardening or planting with Mom, if it’s something she enjoys
- Call her on the phone
- Watch her favorite sport with her. There’s often a game on somewhere on Sunday afternoon.
- Wash Mom’s car
- Take her out to dinner
- Cook her dinner
- Relax together for some family time
- If second Sunday in May is not a day for her, reschedule to a more convenient time.
- Set up a Storyworth for her, or consider a similar gift.
That last one is interesting. It send someone an email prompt each month, and then invites them to write about it. At the end of the year their responses are delivered in a bound book as a keepsake. Pretty neat.
Regardless what you choose, maybe try something a little different next year to remind Mom what a blessing she is to you. And if my list feels too pedestrian or same old/same old, comment below and tell me about some interesting things you’ve come up with. We’re all ears!
