Have Your Say About Signs

The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord accepts my prayer.

-Psalm 6:9 (NRSV)

Democracy is based upon the conviction there are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people.

-Rev. Harry Emerson Fosdick

Do you know the name Fosdick? If you don’t know this great thinker, theologian, author of books and hymns, you can read more about him here. You probably most often see his name next to the hymn “God of Grace and God of Glory,” which includes the great line, “Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour.” If find it very inspiring, as it reminds us that God stands with us in times of change.

I also love his quote on Democracy, and it’s time for everybody in Pilgrim Church to live into that possibility!

It’s Time to Have Your Say

Have your say, Pilgrims, about what kind of sign you’d like on the entrances of the building to welcome people into our sacred space. What’s important to you? A sign is not a church, but it does work for us when we’re not in the building. How do you wish to be known in the community? Do you want your witness around welcome to include certain things? This is your opportunity to share.

The church office sent out a survey where you may rank your choices from four options. They are:

1. The use of Rainbow Pride Flags at the entryways to the church.

2. The use of signs similar to those already displayed on a temporary basis with the Rainbow Pride Flag.

3. The use of signs as above, without separate Pride Rainbow Flags, but keeping the rainbow version of the UCC symbol currently used in front of Pilgrim.

4. The use of signs as above but without any flag representation.

Every member of Pilgrim Church gets a vote! Simply follow the link you were sent via email. We are able to track votes by IP address, even while the survey is anonymous. The deadline for voting is July 24th, and it’s very easy and quick to fill out the survey.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about how we welcome folks to Pilgrim Church.

One Comment

  1. I like the sign in this FB post as long as there are no more pride flags at entrances. Saying who we are once at the entrance is plenty. Using the pride flags at every entrance seems overkill and doesn’t address people who are not LGBTQ. However I am an LGBTQ supporter.
