Backpack Program Success

Pilgrim did it again!  Thanks to Pilgrim’s commitment to community outreach, our congregation had another impactful Backpack Program this year. In August, we delivered backpacks, school supplies, 8 new laptops and 2 refurbished laptops to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in Framingham.

This year, DCF specifically expressed their great need for laptops for rising college freshmen.  Having a laptop can truly impact a college student by providing them with the hope and motivation to continue on with their goals. It is impressive to note that Sally Coldwell donated the first computer to a student through Pilgrim’s Backpack Program back in 2004. Sally’s insight and generosity had a tremendous impact on a college youth 20 years ago, and she continues to be an avid supporter of the program today.

The Outreach Committee is so thankful for our awesome church community and the many ways that members work together to make this program a huge success.  Thank you to Julie Connelly and Val Hickey for coordinating the program this year, the Connelly family for delivering the donations to DCF, Herb Kolk for refurbishing 2 Pilgrim laptops for donation, and the Hennessy family for getting a great discount so that we could provide an all-time high number of laptops.  A special thank you to all those who made generous donations to the Outreach Backpack Program!
