Don’t Miss World Communion Sunday!

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Acts 2:42

If someone you cared about told you they were coming to dinner, what would be your first question?

Might it be something like, “What do you like to eat?” Or maybe, “Any dietary restrictions?” If you know them well, you might say something like, “Hey, you mentioned you liked my garlic parmesan chicken wings, would you like me to make them?”

Serving guests things they like is a particular pleasure. It’s the hallmark of a great welcome. If the timing is right things work out, my mom will bake a blueberry pie when she knows I’m coming. It’s a joy to eat and a joy for her to make it.

On the other hand, you wouldn’t say, “I’m making steak, so if your weird teenager is still on her vegan kick, tell her to bring her own food.” At least, you wouldn’t say that if you were putting your guests’ needs on par (or even, gasp, above) your own. Also being vegan isn’t weird. It’s about eating vegetables. Everybody should be doing more of that!

So how do we welcome kids into our worship?

Do we make it easy for them to participate? Do we give them things to do and acknowledge their presence? Do we make worship fun and interesting for them? This week, we’ve got an opportunity to do just that!

Sunday, October 1st is World Communion Sunday, and kids will be invited to stay in worship with us for the entire service. Let’s make them feel welcome! There will be check-ins peppered through the service, and opportunities for the kids to participate. This isn’t about “dumbing things down.” It’s about making sure our treasured guests feel welcome as a part of worship.

Please join us in this special opportunity to welcome kids in worship. Also, kids and parents: let us know how it goes for you. We’re glad you’re here!
