‘Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.’
John 1:51 (NRSV)
Sam, Carla, Cliff, Norm, Diane…are these familiar names?
If they are, you may be a fan of the show Cheers, that quintessential Boston sitcom “where everybody knows your name.” In the theme song for the show you’re urged to “take a break from all your worries” with special friends. And what’s special about them, you ask? Nothing really, just that they know you in a way that the rest of the world might not know you.
The clientele of Cheers was a little like a church. They met every week in a beloved space to laugh, to play, to agree to disagree, to love, to fight…to live! What they had in common initially was the space. But what they come to have in common was far greater.
This Sunday at Pilgrim Church…
This week in Sunday school and church we’re in the series, “What Can I Do?” and the topic for this week is “I can trust Jesus knows me.” We’ll read the story of the call of Philip and Nathanael to become disciples.
