Will You Let Lent Happen This Year?

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?

Psalm 42:2

Welcome to Lent!

It’s a special time in the Christian year, and I hope you’ll find some time for the season this year.

That sounds funny, doesn’t it? Finding time for a season? The truth is, the season will happen whether you notice it or not. Sometimes we hear from someone after Christmas has come and gone who says, “It felt like Christmas barely even happened.”

Maybe you’ve said it yourself!

Of course Christmas happened, and people who used Advent calendars and who attended Advent services knew it full well, because they invested in it. Time and attention are as valuable as money today, possibly even more so. Where you place your time and attention are where you’ll get the most return.

Could Lent be that for you this year?

Some folks will attend our Considering Forgiveness Workshop, and for them, this will be a Lent to remember. Others attended Ash Wednesday, and look forward to Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday, since these special services inspire them.

Some give up meat, for all or Lent or just on Fridays. Whatever you do, I hope you’ll find a spiritual practice that engages and enlivens you. Don’t arrive at Easter thinking, “It felt like Lent barely even happened.” You deserve a better Lent!
