He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins…

Thanks to our Stewardship Team for shepherding us to this important moment in the life of Pilgrim Church
Our Consecration Sunday worship and luncheon are a chance for Pilgrims to celebrate our giving for the year ahead. Each year, we find our way forward with what has been promised by our membership. We do have other resources like our rentals from various communications companies. But the bulk of our support comes from members like you, expressing their thanks and hopes for Pilgrim Church.
This year, we returned to a time-honored tradition: mailing out pledge cards with a letter. We hope folks will bring the cards to worship on Sunday. By knowing what you’re able to give now gives us a sense of what’s possible for 2025. We frame this commitment in caring for one another, but there are many scriptures about giving.
Mark 12 is all about Jesus authority, and the ways the typical structures of power in his day disrespected his message.
It becomes clear in just a few verse that Jesus was calling the disciples to a more sacrificial level of giving. I referenced this on Sunday, saying that we don’t need to wait for anyone to save us: we are the ones we’re waiting for! A small increase this year would go a long way to reminding your fellow congregants that this enterprise of worship, service and fellowship is still important.
We’ve just lived through a divisive season. It’s time to unite in love, finding common purpose together. But please don’t only decide how much money you’ll give. Consider also how much time you might spend at Pilgrim, and how your talents might be brought to bear. We need everyone giving out of their abundance to continue to have the church we’ve decided to have!
Thank you so much for doing your part, not only for yourself and the church staff, but for your fellow congregants as well.
