Are you looking for a way to serve others during the holidays? Have we got an opportunity for you!
One of the simplest ways to serve others this Advent could be by attending our Blue Christmas service Wednesday night at 7pm at St. Mark’s Church. This is a joint service, hosted by St. Mark’s Church, but our own Reverend Charley Eastman leading worship and preaching. It’s great community-building opportunity for both our churches.
But why would we share this as a service opportunity?
We often say Blue Christmas services are for those who aren’t feeling “merry and bright” around Christmas. Maybe this is your first Christmas after a special someone has passed away. Or perhaps holidays are complicated by challenging family dynamics or a sudden change in a relationship.
But there’s a whole other group of folks who might attend a Blue Christmas service: those compassionate, empathetic folks who want to support those feeling blue at the holidays. Thank you for thinking of others! Now here’s an opportunity to stand (or sit) with them and to share their burdens by reminding them they are not alone.
Liturgy translates from the Latin as “the work of the people.”
Blue Christmas is a chance for us to embody the “priesthood of all believers,” by showing up for each other. We’ll have responsorial readings, scriptures, and a chance for you to light a candle and remember someone to the congregation.
We anticipate a healing, reflective time, and it’s followed by a reception in the St. Mark’s Church Hall afterward.
