Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
Matthew 19:14
This Sunday is Children’s Sunday at Pilgrim. Join us for this Special Worship at 10am.
Jesus, in a poignant moment with his disciples, urges them to let children seeking him come to him. Then he turns their presence—and their power—into an object lesson. You can’t come to this kingdom, he says, unless you can come to it with a child-like spirit, and with a child’s open heart. Jesus knew that sometimes we are so bogged down in our “adulting” that we can forget to play, to welcome people as they are, and to even have fun while learning.
The Prayground in the back of our church (see above) is a valuable witness. Kids learn right from the moment they arrive that they are welcome here. They are a valuable part of our worship, so we make special space for them to feel included (and to fight off encroaching boredom when we get too quiet!)
But this Sunday, the kids take over!
You’ll hear kids leading prayer, kids playing music…even kids preaching! And that’s a great opportunity for all of us to remember: not only are kids the future of the church, they are also our exemplars in faith. Jesus wants us to emulate their joy and spirit in our own beliefs.
Thank you to our Christian Education team for their work in planning. We hope to see you at our special service this Sunday!
