Getting Ready for All Saints Sunday, November 2nd

Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who are hungry now,
    for you will be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
    for you will laugh.

Luke 6:20b-21 (NRSVUE)

Please let Debbie know of those who have passed this year that you’d like included in our All Saints Sunday Ritual this year

Every year we join with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in this important rite of remembrance of those who’ve died in the past year. We start in the garden behind St. Mark’s Church and make our way though the Burnett Burial Ground and eventually to Pilgrim Church. At their church and ours, we share the names of those we’ve lost. The tour culminates with our choir singing outside our front blue doors, and then we disperse and head in for worship.

Many of us love this “moving” tradition. Join us at 9:30 am in the yard behind St. Mark’s if you’d like to participate. You can also meet us in front of Pilgrim at 9:45 if the walk is too much of a hardship. You choose!

One of the passages shared at All Saints Sunday is The Beatitudes. The version above comes from Luke.

It’s meant to remind us of the qualities of those who inspire us in our faith. We know faith is a God-given opportunity, but we tend to learn our faith from other people. Who has been inspiring for you in your faith walk? If they’re still with us, All Saints Sunday can be a reminder to thank them while they are.

Regardless, their impact is strong in our lives. Thank God for all our saints, and join us to celebrate them on November 2nd.
