Backpack Program Success

Pilgrim did it again!

Supporting our community is in the fabric of Pilgrim Church, and we put our generosity into action with another successful Backpack Program to start off the 2025 school year. In August, the Outreach  Committee delivered backpacks, school supplies and 7 new laptops to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in Framingham to distribute to kids in need.

The Backpack Program has become a tradition here at Pilgrim Church, and Sally Coldwell incorporated the then-revolutionary idea to include computers in 2004, recognizing the important role technology plays in academic success and how inability to afford an expensive computer was a barrier to learning for many kids. Sally was the first computer donor, sparking a more than 20-year tradition of Pilgrim Church helping provide local students with vital tools for success.

It takes a village.

The Outreach Committee is thankful for our generous church community and the many ways that members work together to make this program a success. It takes a village, and ours is strong. This year the Backpack Program was organized by Kathy Marple and Julie Connelly, and we again relied on Michael Hennessy to help secure laptops at a discounted price to maximize our impact. In times of uncertainty such as these, our support of kids in need is more vital than ever, so a very special thank you to all those who contributed to make this program a success.
