It’s not quite here yet, but I’d love us to all be on the same page with our Holy Week events. Here’s to keeping everyone up to date on the whats, the whens, and the WHYS.
Sunday, March 29th, 10 am: Palm Sunday Worship
Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!
Matthew 21:9
Our Palm Sunday service is a call-back to the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jersulem. This even occurred near the end of his time here among us, and some believe that the fanfare at his arrival probably drew the attention of Roman authorities. Jesus could not go lightly, and on this day, we revisit the story and wave palms as we sing our hosannas, welcoming his spirit among us again.
Thursday, April 2nd, 6 pm: Soup Supper and Maundy Thursday Worship
While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
Luke 22:47-48
Our Maundy Thursday service begins with a soup supper downstairs before we head up to the sanctuary for our evening service. This unique celebration follows the Tenebrae tradition. Tenebrae means “shadow” or “darkness” in Latin, and as read the stories of how Jesus was abandoned, candles are extinguished. We finish in darkness, hearing the nails and a final song before we leave in silence.
This might sound like a funny service to be excited about, but the drama and the pathos shine through the scriptures. Some feel it’s the most contemplative service of the church year. We hope you’ll join us.
Sunday, April 5th, 6:30 am: United Parishes’ Easter Sunrise Service at Hopkinton State Park
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay
Matthew 28:6
When you arrive at the park, follow the signs to the Boat Launch, and meet us by the water in the parking lot. This service includes special music by our own Peter Zchokke and Kathy Sporer; also this year, Rev. Charley Eastman will be preaching the message. The ducks will be there…will you?
Whether you’re a morning person, or just want “to have done it” and bear up to be there, Easter Sunrise is a special acknowledgment that this is a Sunday like no other. Join us and hear the story of the Empty Tomb and the excitement of the Good News! If you need more inspiration, there’s usually coffee from Dunkin’…
Sunday, April 5th at 8:15 am: Easter Pancake Breakfast!
So, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, you should all eat together
1 Corinthians 11:33
Come answer the question with us…is Pilgrim the Eatingest Church in Southborough? From Fellowship Hour to Maundy Thursday Soups to Easter Morning Breakfast, the argument could be made! Please join us for this special new tradition. Meet us in Fellowship Hall after the Sunrise service, where the Men’s Fellowship (with a lot of help) sponsors this annual get-together.
It would be great to see you there, and the pancakes are fluffy and waiting!
Sunday, April 5th at 10 am: EASTER SUNDAY WORSHIP
‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here…’
Luke 16:6
This is it, the most important service of the year–not to put any pressure on anyone! Join us for the this transformational worship when we throw open the window blinds and let in the light (however much is available on the day). We sing our favorite Easter hymns, we rejoice in the homecoming of old friends and relations, and we give thanks for the glory of the story.
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Whether you can make it to one or all of these events for Holy Week, we hope you’ll feel welcome and inspired. Join us at Pilgrim Church for Holy Week celebrations, and remember: new friends are ALWAYS welcome!
