Thank you so much to everyone at Pilgrim who has supported PCYG throughout the years!
PCYG has been incredibly blessed over the last 15-plus years to work with Sasha Bruce, an organization working to end youth and child homelessness in the DC area. They provide vital wraparound services and housing to countless youth and young adults.
They took a chance on a group of teen volunteers years ago when no one else was brave enough to let us come in and help. From that moment, an incredible partnership was formed.
We have built a deck, outdoor staircases, painted thousands of square feet, fixed numerous walls, landscaped, built baby furniture, and completed countless other projects to help Sasha Bruce help those in need.
This year’s project was extra special. We took a room full of garbage bags filled with donations and transformed it into a boutique where the people they serve can shop. Instead of being handed a garbage bag with some stuff, people are able to come in and find exactly what they need. It is giving them their dignity back and allowing them to have a real shopping experience.
It was such a wonderful culmination of so much of the work that we have done in all of the homes throughout the years. We are so grateful to be able to do this work, and we are so grateful that Sasha Bruce took a chance on a bunch of teenagers years ago.
Their building manager is responsible for all of their houses and cannot do all the work himself. Each year, we are able to grant a wish to this organization that gives so much back to their community.
We are excited to continue this work and to fulfill our mission in the world: to create incredible teen leaders who truly understand their impact on the community and the world.
When other organizations didn’t want anyone under 18 volunteering, Sasha Bruce gave us a path. We are so excited to continue that collaboration into the future!
