Bible Conversations will begin again this Sunday, September 20th at 8:45 in the Church Parlor
So what is Bible Conversations? It’s a small group meeting in the church parlor for anyone who wants to know a little more about the scripture we’re discussing each Sunday. We’ll review some of the scholarship around the passage; but you don’t have to be a scholar. We’ll go into the history, but you don’t need to be a historian either. We’re just looking for people who want to be “in conversation” about this big (and sometimes confusing) book we call our Bible.
You are welcome to drop in for one week, or you can make a habit of it. We meet Sunday morning before worship at 8:45 am, and we covenant to finish by 9:30 so everyone has time to get to the service. There’s nothing to prepare, but you can read the passages in advance if you want. Debbie sends the scripture out each week as a part of our Scripture Review email on Thursdays.
What happens?
Well, we read the passage and we have a conversation! Sometimes it grows out of people’s questions. Sometimes Pastor Charley asks for reactions to a certain aspect of the reading. It’s free-form and fun, and by the end, Charley usually asks one very important question:
“Why did you need to hear this scripture today?” It’s not a trick question and there’s no one right answer, but it helps us hear how we’re each affected by the reading.
“I love the group because I always learn something,” Charley says. “It’s not about who walks in knowing the most about a particular book of the Bible. It’s usually about how the group finds insight together. Plus, it’s just fun.”
If this sounds like your kind of fun, join us Sunday mornings at 8:45 am in the church parlor!
