Listen Up! Skills to Make Us Healthy and Happier

[John the Baptist] proclaimed, ‘The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.’

Mark 1:4-11 (NRSV)

On January 22nd, Healthy Living will embark on a new book!

What’s Healthy Living, you ask?

Healthy Living is a weekly small group that means Mondays in the parlor. We share stories, we talk about our journeys, and we generally focus on…wait for it…healthy living, whether we’re caring for ourselves or for others.

Sometimes we just talk. Sometimes we talk about a book or an issue or a concept in our lives together. We’re always looking for ways to grow and improve.

Enter Gretchen Rubin, co-host of the Happier Podcast

At the start of the year, we seek new pathways. Why not consider a happier life? Rubin and her sister spend time in a weekly podcast exploring ways to improve the quality of their lives, their works and their relationships. This book is a distillation of some of those concepts, and we’re really looking forward to learning more.

You can join us Mondays at 9:30 am starting January 22nd. Healthy Living is an open small group. Also, you don’t need to read the book to participate. We’ll fill in the blanks for you.

One of the most important skills in Healthy Living is LISTENING

John the Baptist urged people to hear his message, not because his message was the end-all be-all, but because he knew Jesus was coming. Jesus brought a powerful new message about the love of God. But we’d have to be listening to catch it. Turns out listening is an important skill in both faith and life.

We’ll hear more about listening from Reverend Charley Eastman in his message this week, and if you’d like to prepare for the message, you can read Mark 1:4-11 at this link.
