We are really blessed to be able to share an Iftar meal with our Muslim brethren here at Pilgrim Church
What does it mean to do interfaith work? Often we gather for services where everyone looks for the lowest common denominator, that is, what do we have in common that won’t ruffle any feathers while still being authentic?
But guess what we have in common, that IS authentic, and it’s nothing we have to water down to enjoy? FOOD! Every faith community has food tied to its celebrations, and Christians and Muslims are not excempt. At this time of year, Muslims are engaged in the daily fast of Ramadan. This is a daylight fast from sunup to sundown, to encourage prayer and reflection. The goal is to foster self-control and gratitude, and to bring believers closer to God.
This Saturday, February 28th at 5pm, Neighbors for Peace will host an Iftar dinner in Fellowship Hall.
The Iftar meal follows evening prayer, so we’ll make space in our church rooms for the Muslims with us to take time for their important prayers, and then we’ll gather to eat together.
The food is provided, you just need to follow this link to let us know how many people to expect. I’m really looking forward to sharing this sacred time with folks that we don’t usually get to see inside our church. This is safe space for them, and for you as well, to come and learn and experience what their Ramadan fast is about.
Please use this link to register, and I hope to see you this Saturday, February 28th, at 5pm in the Fellowship Hall.
