Lenten Series Announcement: When Did We See You?

They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

Matthew 25:44 (NIV)

This Lent Pastor Charley will lead Bible Conversations and a special after-church session in discussion of this great new book!

Full disclosure, I’ve known Rev. Dr. Liz Magill for some time, and I’ve just finished reading her latest book. It’s a great exploration of poverty and wealth, and it’s perfectly set up for Lenten study!

From the cover: “Like so many of us, Rev. Elizabeth Magill struggles to wrap her head around the tensions involving wealth, responsible planning for the future, and how God wants us to care for those less fortunate than ourselves. How does a Christian with money respond in a country where over 36 million people live below the poverty line.”

We’ll spend the weeks of Lent going through this book, and the conversations seeds Rev. Dr. Magill plants should be engaging!

You can order your own copy of the book direct from the publisher here. The physical book is $17.99, and the eBook is $9.99. You don’t have to read the book to participate, but it will enhance your experience if you can. If for any reason you need financial assistance with this purchase, please let Pastor Charley know and he’ll connect you with a copy! You can also order the book here.

The schedule for our study will follow the plan below. If you can get the book in time, read Chapter One prior to Ash Wednesday, February 18th. We’ll discuss some of that and Chapter Two at the first session.

  • Sunday, February 22: Material Poverty (Chapter Two)
  • Sunday, March 1: Wealth (Chapter Three)
  • Sunday, March 8: Spiritual Poverty (Chapter Four)
  • Sunday, March 15: Charity (Chapter Five)
  • Sunday, March 22: Justice (Chapter Six)
  • Palm Sunday, March 29: Connections (Chapter Seven)
  • Easter Sunday, April 5: Easter Morning (Epilogue)

We look forward to exploring this important topic with you through Lent. As a church with a Food Pantry inside, caring for those in need has long been important to us. Let’s see where we’ll go from here!
